A Writer's Blast From the Past
While rummaging through an old file cabinet, I was pretty excited to come across this Summer 1996 issue of Ulster, a regional magazine from the city where I once lived. Having been a music columnist and features writer for two regional newspapers, I occasionally stepped in to write some sports pieces. While doing so, I discovered I enjoyed writing about sports! And, as a photojournalist, I was often hired to take my own photographs to coincide with the stories I wrote, which I absolutely loved!
So, after being hired to be a guest sports writer for one of our local newspapers, I began writing about Bicycle Motorcross Racing (BMX) racing, Horsehows in the Sun (HITS), and a few other sports, I penned this piece, "Inside the Fast Track" about NASCAR racing and local fans who collected a wide range of memorabilia, and the piece was published by Ulster magazine. It really was a fun and interesting piece to write.
I have to say, even after all these years, it's still a fun read! Now, looking back and remembering some of the interviewees, was also a lovely trip down Memory Lane.
I wonder where they all are today?
And...what did I write on in 1996 when technology was in its infancy stages? My first drafts were still written on paper with pen, and the final draft was done on a blue selectric typewriter (who else remembers those?), that I eventually updated to a black Brother word processor, which at the time, was pretty cutting edge!
Yes, I am a dinosaur!
I'm joining in my FiveSibes #FlashbackFriday Blog Hop! Hope. you'll join in, too! Simply share something on your blog, website, or social media from Memory Lane - yesterday or yesteryear - and "hop" along! Be sure to visit the other bloggers, too!
Until next time,
Dorothy
